Gruntest

Green Axe Bar. Sign is a green axe. Serves orcish and goblinoid liquors, most of which are exceedingly harsh to outsiders, but has a good variety of meats on the menu.

The Spindel and Hammer, a former long-term care hospital turned tavern, The Spindel and Hammer has many halls and rooms, as well as multiple common rooms, though only a portion of the tavern is used actively. The rest is inhabited by shops and residents who sometimes stroll in for a pint or a tale.

Merchant King of Gruntest. Merchant King is a network of taverns that operates in several regions. In Gruntest it is staffed by orc-dwarf hybrids who make use of the magical banking network of temples and shrines of Vergadain. The food and rooms are good but not great, and guests can expect roughly the same quality and rates at each establishment, which travelers and merchant caravaners appreciate. The construction is half-timber, and a banner outside the front door features a laughing image of Vergadain in yellow, on a red background. The main attraction is that guests can pay using their Vegadain accounts, which draw upon treasure deposited at any branch of the main temple in Red Roost. They can also make small deposits or withdrawals from their accounts at any Merchant King tavern (with a limit of 100gp per day; larger amounts need to be handled at a temple or shrine of the dwarven god).

The Red Lodge. This “tavern” is actually a network of nomadic establishments. There are several in the Gruntest region: usually one in each settlement, and others among the various orc tribes and bands in the region that do not have permanent locations. The proprietors are usually members of the bands or tribes that they service, recruited by the network’s owner for their reputation, physical presence, intelligence, and business acumen. Each location has a large red lodge and several other smaller ones behind it in a cluster. The main lodge is for grog, meals, and entertainment, and the smaller lodges are for paid sleeping accommodations. The furnishings are designed to fit local tastes and customs.
